Hello,

My name is Eva Adams and I am an intern in the Public Affairs department of UII. Maybe some people have seen me around the campus. It is really easy to recognize me as I am the “buleh” – the white person. I started my internship last week and am now going to keep you updated about my perspective of the activities around the campus in this section.

First of all, I have to say that everybody here is very nice and helpful. Wherever I go, people say hello, ask if I know how to get to wherever I want to go and answer questions I have about work, but also about culture and religion. So that is for sure a positive experience, but also very typical of Yogyakarta from what I have heard and experienced so far!

I am going to be here for about five more months until the end of January and I am hoping that I can really get to know the university with all its students and employees, ceremonies, routines and traditions as well as the Indonesian way of working and living. If you have any questions or just want to chat, feel free to talk to me, since – like I said – I enjoy talking to the people around here and think that everybody is really friendly.

So maybe now some basic information about myself: I am from Germany, recently graduated from the Cologne University of Applied Sciences with a bachelor degree in “Multilingual Communication” with the specialization in translation and now I wanted to get some working experience and see other countries and cultures before starting a Master program next summer. That is how I ended up here, at the Universitas Islam Indonesia in Yogyakarta and I have to say – I like it!
